Infants & Toddlers
Infant and Toddler Nursery Care
As disciples of Christ we hear his call and we strive to provide a loving and safe environment for the children of our church; so their faith might grow, their knowledge of the Bible might deepen, and their place in the church family might show them the love of Christ.
The nursery is open and available on Sunday mornings while you are in Sunday school, choir practice, and/or worship, from the hours of 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Children who are infant through five years old are welcome to be in the nursery during these times. Infants and children are welcome to remain in the nursery during the entire worship hour.
Child care is also available in the nursery on Wednesday evenings during choir practice (6:40 p.m. to 8:20 p.m.), on an as needed basis. Should you wish to join the choir and require child care during that time, please contact the Director of Christian Education (217.528.4311 ext. 209) to request Wednesday evening child care.
Additionally, nursery care is provided during special worship services, such as Goosebumps Organ Concert and Light Show and the 1850s Carol Sing.
Nursery care is provided by two dedicated nursery care workers, who have experience caring for infants and children. We do believe consistency is important for children so the same smiling faces week after week as caregivers help kids transition to the nursery. All of our workers have had background checks and are trained in safety and our child protection policy.
We no longer serve snacks in the nursery: food allergies among children makes this too difficult to do so safely. There are snacks offered during coffee hour immediately following worship to which your child is welcome with your supervision.
We want to keep everyone healthy, so we follow a well-child policy. In order to do so, we ask that you please keep your child home in any of the following circumstances:
Your child has a fever or has had a fever in the last 24 hours.
Your child has vomited or had diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
Your child has pink eye, frequent coughing, or skin rash.
Your child has been taking an antibiotic for less than 24 hours.
All Nursery Care (including Special Event Childcare) is provided in our Nursery rooms, which are on the first floor of the Education building, between the Chapel and the Commons. The Nursery consists of two adjoining rooms with ample windows so you can observe your child at play. All children must enter through the east door (in the hallway to the Sanctuary).
If you need to find a quiet place to escape with your infant or child during worship, head to the Narthex (church entry), found directly behind the Sanctuary. Bathrooms are located in the narthex as well.
Please contact DCE Jennifer Hardin if you have additional questions.
